WHAT IS FLOW
Flow, according to psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, is a state of mind or a state of experience that we feel when we are totally involved in a task we enjoy, while challenges and skills are balanced. Being in a state of flow is an intrinsically rewarding experience. We feel optimally energized, focused, creative and productive.
Our mission at Flow Athens is to empower the individual to discover their element. We encourage them to cultivate the multiple faces of their charisma, so that they may define their own path for personal and professional development. In the workshops of Flow Athens we share our ideas and inspirations. We do not teach. We explore possibilities and experience what works best in practice. We design trails of experiences that spark interest, cause new ways of thinking and different connections. At the core of these experiences are serious games, play and their underlying principles. We create suitable conditions for the individual to develop skills and competencies that are important in life now as well as in the future, also known as 21st century skills.
THEMIS GKION
LEARNING EXPERIENCE ARCHITECT
Themis founded the educational organization Flow Athens, shaping how he imagines inspiring learning. He currently trains business executives, teachers, and students on 21st century skills, such as: creativity, collaboration, mechanisms for innovation, effective communication, flexibility in problem solving and design thinking. He delved into experimental teaching methods and developed an affinity for learning by growing up and working in a primary school founded by his grandmother.
He studied Mechanical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and Pedagogics at the School of Pedagogical & Technical Education. He holds an MBA with distinction from INSEAD. He was awarded the gold medal at the National Mathematical Olympiad and bronze medal at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad.
After a long journey of career exploration, which started from his love for mathematics and challenges, and his involvement with education, he is back to where it all began; developing initiatives for meaningful education to meet the changing needs of people.
He gained expertise in diverse business sectors, along his career path. He developed textile machinery, as a research & development engineer. He traded financial derivatives at the global markets division of a bank. He explored entrepreneurship and leadership training during his MBA at INSEAD. He is a Teacher Trainer and Lead Facilitator for Partners for Youth Empowerment and a Lecturer at University of Derby.
He has collaborated with several organizations in educational projects, including: Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, Biomedical Research Foundation Academy of Athens, Mozilla Foundation, Eugenides Foundation, Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Ravensbourne College, Partners for Youth Empowerment, British Council, Goethe Institut, Vakalo Art & Design College, Planet Agents, Hive Learning Network, Future Library, Costeas-Geitonas School, Neue Schule Athen, National Bank of Greece, EYDAP, DEPA, Ethos Sustainability Forum, Metavallon, FIWARE, DesignSTEM, NeuriNOx, Draxis Environmental Technologies and Helsinki Learning Festival.
