CREATIVE CLASSROOM TEACHER TRAINING WITH PYE

55 high-school teachers were trained at “Creative Classroom”, a two-day experiential learning workshop by Partners for Youth Empowerment, supported by Ashoka. The workshop was organized by the Experimental Middle School Agion Anargyron, and was hosted at the Museum of History – Old University at Plaka. Themis Gkion was part of the team of 5 facilitators.

The workshop is based on a growing body of research suggesting that 21st century skills, such as creativity, collaboration, emotional intelligence and problem solving skills, are vital to succeed in an ever more complex world.

This workshop offers teachers the tools to invite their 12-18Y students’ engagement in class, irrespective of the teaching topic, by combining experiential learning with arts based activities. Through the application of these tools, students develop skills such as self-confidence, creativity, and empathy.

In Creative Classroom, teachers learn:

•    A methodology helping youth develop self-confidence and motivation to create.
•    Tools to create a dynamic, engaging learning environment in class.
•    Resources to maintain the students’ interest.
•    Simple activities, adaptable to any educational model, to encourage even the most resistant student to participate in the learning process.
•    Personal development methodologies for the teacher, which redefine and reignite their passion for the educational process.
